Drinking Problems

So I mentioned that I’m back together with Judy the other day, right? Well one of the things I was really looking forward to about moving back with her was the fact that I’d be able to get caffeine again. I mean Paris has started buying me Caffeine Free Diet Dr. Pepper, which apparently tastes more like regular Diet Dr. Pepper, but that’s not quite the same thing, you know?

Only Paris has got Judy on this whole no caffeine kick thing, too. Only, I don’t see how it can be a “kick” if you’re half asleep all the time so I guess it’s a no caffeine non-kick. The thing is that it’s not just the caffeiene that I miss, though. It’s the flavors. I can kind of remember when it was a big deal that they put cherry in Coke, and then they started adding lemon and stuff, and vanilla, and now you can even get Diet Caramel Creme Pepsi Jazz.

Even though you can just barely taste the jazz, the caramel’s pretty good.

And now I’m seeing commercials for some kind of Chocolate Cherry Dr. Pepper. Double You Tee Eff, why couldn’t they have had that around here when I was drinking caffeine? I need to find some friends who are less in love with this whole “actually sleeping at night” fad.

Anyway, because I am a Natural Problem Solver, I swiped some of the flavored syrup bottles from the counter at the coffee shop in the bookstore at the mall. I managed to get caramel, vanilla, cherry, and for some reason I also got gingerbread spice which I didn’t think they even used this far past Christmas. Maybe it’s for their Far Eastern Orthodox customers?

My first attempt at making my own flavored soda kind of had mixed results. Which since I’m mixing stuff together I guess is kind of expected. But anyway I tried making a Caffeine Free Caramel Pepsi but I didn’t really know how much of the flavor syrup to use. I didn’t get any of the spurty things they put on top to do the shots, you know? So I just poured in what I thought was the right amount but I guess it was too much because it tasted like drinking a pancake.

Once I drank it halfway down and added more Pepsi a couple times, it was pretty good, though. It wasn’t, you know, anything like an authentic Diet Caramel Creme Pepsi Jazz, though. That’s probably because I haven’t been able to find any jazz flavoring. I’ve been looking around, but nobody seems to carry it.

I guess that means I’ll have to improvise.

I don’t know where you might find jazz flavoring, but if you want to substitute with rock and roll, you can find some quartz and put it in one of those tumbler things to smooth it out some, and then roll it into the glass. For added extra awesome you can put the quartz in the freezer first so it can pretend to be an ice cube.

Oh! And make sure you wash off the quartz before putting it in your pepsi. This is a very easy mistake to make!

If you don’t like the flavor of quartz I find that jasper and agate work pretty well too.

Maybe you could ask a Jazz bar for some jazz flavoring?

I always like chocolate root beer..

I have a can of the cherry chocolate dr. pepper right here, it’s… sorta odd. Chocolate carbonated drinks aren’t to everyone’s taste.

Ah! I talked to a friend, and according to him you can make Jazz out of:
    2 shots Hendricks Gin
1 shot De Kuyper Crème De Cassis
    0.25 shots Lime Juice

Will there be a sugar free form version as well?
